There is nothing more special than the bond between a child and his dog. Every child should grow up with a dog. They are not only loving companions, but they are also very protective of their owners and always willing to put themselves in danger when there is a threat.
This was proven by a small, but very brave dog this week. She defended her 10-year-old owner against a coyote, sustaining injuries in the process.
Macy is a six-year-old Yorkshire living with her owner Dorothy Kwan and her family in Toronto, Canada.

Recently, Macy was out walking with the family’s 10-year-old daughter. Everything took a drastic turn when the girl came face to face with a wild coyote.
But amazingly, the little dog bravely approached the coyote to protect her young owner.

The footage is disturbing: in the background, you can see the coyote attacking Macy while the girl calls for help.
But ultimately, Macy emerges victorious in the duel: Macy continues to bark, and eventually the coyote retreats, as if driven away by the smaller dog!
“You can see our dog positioning herself between my daughter and the coyote,” Dorothy Kwan told blogTO. “Even after being seriously injured, she kept barking and driving the coyote away. She fought back.”
Although Macy managed to fend off the coyote, she still sustained some serious injuries. “She has extensive injuries to her body and leg,” Dorothy wrote.
“She is undergoing surgery for her wounds at the emergency animal hospital.”

Dorothy was devastated to see her beloved dog injured while saving her daughter.
“My heart breaks for both my little one and our dog that we rescued 5 years ago. I am a single mom of two and my kids and our dog mean everything to me.”
Macy was taken to the animal hospital where she received care for her wounds, but the bill ultimately amounted to thousands.
However, when the family set up a GoFundMe page to raise money and shared Macy’s heroic story with the world, many people responded. The fundraiser has raised nearly $20,000, doubling the original goal.

And even better, Macy is recovering well, according to updates from Dorothy on the fundraiser website.
“Her fever is gone and she has her appetite back,” she wrote today. “I am so proud of her. No coyote will want to mess with her when she gets home. My spunky girl is a true fighter. I love you so much. Well done!”
What a brave little dog. We hope the heroic Macy recovers soon!
