Being a parent, nothing matters more than the well-being of your child and ensuring they feel cherished. This family went through a nightmare when a day meant for celebration turned into a tragedy.
Instead of a birthday party, they had to prepare for a funeral. Such a heart-wrenching turn of events.
Young Josiah Toleafoa was on his way to Play City for his third birthday celebration with other kids when a tragic accident happened. The little boy was hit by a car in the parking lot of Play City, an indoor venue for children in Chula Vista, San Diego.
An eyewitness to the devastating incident recalled Josiah’s mother crying hysterically while paramedics tried to save her son’s life. Despite their efforts, Josiah tragically passed away at Rady Children’s Hospital.

Authorities stated that the 36-year-old driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated fully. They confirmed that drugs and alcohol were not factors in the accident.
Family members turned to social media to create a GoFundMe page to help cover Josiah’s funeral costs. They described the young boy as affectionate and kind-hearted. Josiah’s aunt, Tatiana Toleafoa, expressed, “JOSIAH brought the family together – his incredible SMILE, LOVING HEART just brought JOY to every room. There was no time to see him do great things. I KNOW HE WOULD HAVE MADE A DIFFERENCE IN THE WORLD.”

She explained the purpose of the fundraiser: “We are raising funds to cover the funeral expenses for my dear nephew and to honor the little angel who touched numerous lives in various ways before his untimely passing. Any contribution would be appreciated. We are thankful for the support of our loving family and friends during this tragic time and we want to provide a proper farewell to the little boy who loved unconditionally.”
The owner of Play City announced a donation of $2,000 to Josiah’s family, with the landlord matching the contribution.
The incident is currently under investigation, with no arrests made in relation to the accident at this time.
This is an incredibly tragic story. Our deepest condolences go out to Josiah Toleafoa’s family during this difficult time. Let us all keep them in our thoughts and prayers.
