The biggest nightmare for any parent is knowing that their child is sick and not being able to do much about it.

Anissa Machado was only 19 years old when she gave birth to her daughter Milani Yasmine as a single mother. Instead of being afraid of having to continue as a single parent, Machado was confident and excited to give her little girl everything she needed.
A sick baby
But she was shocked when she found out her daughter was born with a heart condition. She was born with a rare condition, the Smith-Lemli-Opitz syndrome. This meant the little girl was likely to have health issues.
The young mother from Arizona didn’t let this diagnosis deter her, and she had the doctors do everything to make her little girl healthy. The newborn remained on the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for months before being transferred to the CardioVascularICU at Phoenix Children’s Hospital.
Since her little girl had never been out of the hospital in her short life, Machado decided to decorate the room’s walls to make it look more festive and friendly for the newborn.

Machado did everything she could to ensure her little girl got better. So when doctors revealed after 10 months that she needed to undergo open-heart surgery, Machado agreed. The baby underwent the operation on August 11, 2022.

Welcome home
After the operation, she spent a few more days in the hospital before finally being able to go home. Of course, special provisions were needed: her feeding tube, her oxygen machine, and an abundance of daily medications.
It became increasingly difficult for Machado to care for her daughter while working. So she decided to ask her 18-year-old sister Bianca to move in with them to help.
While Bianca had to put her own life on hold, she didn’t hesitate to agree because her life also revolved around her little niece.
While Machado focused on her work to earn enough money to cover her daughter’s medical expenses, her sister helped care for the baby.
Machado’s aunt, Amanda Rodriguez, noticed how happy her niece felt, she wrote: βShe [Machado] was so grateful to be chosen to be Milani’s mom.β
She described how hard she saw her niece work, day and night, to ensure she earned enough money to pay for her daughter’s medical expenses. But fate had other plans.
First birthday
The family was still excited about the little one’s first birthday. On October 19, she would have turned one year old. But unfortunately, a few days before her birthday, something heartbreaking happened.

On October 13, something happened that turned their lives upside down. The health of the little girl deteriorated rapidly. While Machado held her baby, she took her last breath and died in her mother’s arms.
“The young mother posted on Facebook about her heartbreaking experience. She wrote: βEven though every day was scary, at the same time, every moment with her was so beautiful because she, no matter what, just radiated love and peace.β
She also described her baby as: “There was chaos inside her, but she was the calmest and most loving baby.”

While it was difficult to say goodbye to her daughter and process her loss, she also acknowledged how much joy her little one had given her in that short time.
She paid tribute to her little girl, expressing how much she appreciated the brief time they had together and how there were “not enough words to explain this pain.”
The family has set up a GoFundMe page to help with the funeral costs of little Yasmine. They are raising $5,000, of which over $3,000 has been raised.
This is definitely a difficult time for the family, but hopefully they will get through it with each other’s help.
It is never easy to lose a loved one, especially someone so young and with so much life ahead. We offer our condolences to the family of little Yasmine.
May the little girl rest in peace.
