The 27-year-old Ekaterina Fedyaeva from Russia underwent what should have been a routine operation at the hospital. She was supposed to have a cyst removed from her ovaries, a common procedure.
However, a grave error led to a tragic outcome for the young woman.
While on the operating table, Ekaterina was mistakenly given a drug typically used in preserving corpses.
She was unintentionally embalmed alive by the medical staff.

Ekaterina had gone to the hospital expecting a routine procedure, but things took a tragic turn. She was young, healthy, and the surgery to remove a cyst was supposed to be straightforward.
Typically, cyst removal involves laparoscopy, where small incisions are made in the abdomen to extract the cysts.
However, Ekaterina’s case became a medical nightmare.

During the surgery, instead of using saline, the doctors mistakenly infused Ekaterina with formalin, a solution containing formaldehyde, as reported by the Russian news agency Tass.
Injected with Formaldehyde
This tragic error led to the introduction of chemicals meant to prevent decay in corpses into Ekaterina’s bloodstream.
Consequently, Ekaterina endured two days of intense pain and cramping before falling into a coma.
Her mother, Galina, attested that while the doctors acknowledged something was amiss, they refused to intervene.

Her Entire Body Trembled
Describing the horrific ordeal to The Sun, Galina recounted the harrowing experience:
“Her legs were moving, she was having convulsions, her whole body was trembling.”
“I put socks on her, then a dress, then a blanket, but she was trembling so hard, I can’t describe it.”
Ekaterina was connected to life support equipment, but her heart stopped multiple times.

According to her mother, Ekaterina briefly uttered, “Mama, I am dying,” before her organs failed, leading to her death.
Galina expressed her anguish at the medical team’s inaction despite knowing they had made a grave error.
“Please, it’s my only child, help her!” she pleaded.

Ekaterina was laid to rest on April 7th, and an investigation is ongoing, as per Russian media reports.
The hospital’s director, where the fatal mistake occurred, has been relieved of duty, according to local media.

Surgeries always carry risks, but such catastrophic errors should never occur, resulting in the loss of a young life and unimaginable grief for the family.
May justice be served for Ekaterina!
