Tragic Neglect: Police Dog Left in Car for 2.5 Hours – Officer Returns to Devastating Discovery

Dogs and children should not be left alone in cars—even with windows open. This should be something all of us should know and adhere to, especially during extreme temperatures like most of us are experiencing now.

Sometimes police are called for such incidents and they have to deal with heartbreaking situations. Now, such a tragic incident has personally affected the police.

The tragedy struck an officer in Styria, Austria, after he left his police dog in his car for 2.5 hours while attending official duties.

According to reports in the local media, the 51-year-old official parked his car in a shady spot with open windows in the morning, but when he returned, his 7-year-old dog was dead.

Police investigation

It was reportedly unclear whether the heat was to blame for the dog’s death. The cause of death is currently being determined by the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna—results are not yet available. However, a police investigation has been launched.

Although it is not yet determined if the police dog’s death was heat-related, it is important to remember to never leave an animal alone in a car, even with the windows open.

Update: This post is a year old, but with the current temperatures, it cannot be reiterated enough!
