From a young age, the cautionary phrase ‘be careful’ echoes in our ears, especially regarding traffic safety.
As a child, I was always guided by an adult when crossing the street, regardless of its busyness. Biking near traffic or playing close to the road was strictly prohibited.
Upon venturing to school alone, the lesson of stopping and looking both ways before crossing was ingrained in me.
Initially, I perceived these precautions as excessive. However, with adulthood, I realize the gravity of a split-second lapse leading to tragedy.
Tragically, 12-year-old Jennarae Goodbar from Rockbridge County, Virginia, USA, experienced the harsh reality of this lesson.
Jennarae adored dogs and exhibited remarkable responsibility in caring for her beloved pet Cash. They shared an inseparable bond, epitomizing true friendship and commitment in her diligent training of Cash.
One fateful day, as Jennarae sat with Cash on their driveway, he darted away unexpectedly. The reason for Cash’s sudden run remains unclear, possibly lured by something intriguing, propelling him onto the road.

Rushed onto the Road
Jennarae promptly rose to pursue Cash, heading towards the adjacent major roadway.
In an attempt to safeguard her cherished companion, Jennarae dashed after him. Tragically, a fatal collision ensued as both Cash and Jennarae were struck by a vehicle.
An investigation is underway to unravel the specifics of the accident. Nevertheless, Jennarae’s family grapples with an irreparable loss, grieving the absence of Jennarae and Cash.
This Saturday, Jennarae and Cash will find their final resting place together. The family’s world has been shattered by this devastating event, although they draw solace in the knowledge that Jennarae will be laid to rest alongside her beloved dog.
