Trapped by New ‘Friends’: Autistic Girl Fights for Survival in Park

Belonging and acceptance within a group is a common struggle for many individuals.

As humans, the desire to be part of a community and embraced for our true selves is universal.

Abbie, now 13 years old, has faced challenges in this aspect.

Being autistic, she requires additional support compared to her peers.

Therefore, when she thought she had found friends at school, it brought her immense joy.

Abbie was excited to join a group outing to a park, anticipating a sense of belonging.

Childhood should ideally be a time of self-discovery and growth.

Unfortunately, it often involves navigating complex social dynamics as children mature.

In school, cliques form and each child strives to find their place among peers.

This quest for acceptance may involve conformity in clothing, music preferences, or interests.

Ultimately, the goal is to feel a sense of belonging and security within a community.

This was precisely what 12-year-old Abbie sought.

Therefore, when Abbie believed she had been embraced by a school group, she was elated.

She felt proud of herself for opening up to her classmates.

Friends invite her to relax at the park

Upon receiving an invitation from a fellow classmate to hang out at the park, Abbie was thrilled.

She eagerly made her way to the park.

However, a nightmare unfolded there.

The group Abbie trusted as her new friends ambushed her in the park.

She was subjected to kicks and blows to the head.

The brutal assault was recorded by some members of the youth group, as reported by the British Mirror.

The assault was so severe, with punches and kicks to the head causing Abbie to lose consciousness multiple times.

Following the final attack, Abbie left the park with bruises and in a state of shock.

Concerned, Abbie’s mother rushed to the park upon realizing her daughter’s silence.

She found Abbie in a distressed state and immediately called for an ambulance, which promptly arrived.

During the journey to the hospital, Abbie experienced fainting spells due to the extent of her injuries.

“I can’t find the words to describe the feeling; the sight of her injuries almost made me sick,” expressed mother Angela to The Mirror.

“I went into survival mode, she was muttering, and I prayed for her survival, fearing she may have sustained brain damage,” she added.

Fearful of returning to school

Following the incident, Abbie, now 13, has undergone significant life changes.

Angela has been providing full-time care to Abbie at home since the attack.

Describing herself as her daughter’s “bodyguard,” Angela contemplates homeschooling Abbie following her return to school a month post-assault.

“She is grappling with trust issues, feeling disconnected from reality, unable to comprehend why she was targeted,” Angela shared.

A spokesperson from the Scottish police disclosed that a 13-year-old girl has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting Abbie.

The nature of her consequences is yet to be determined.
